Gary Madine

Date of birth

Joining Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer, striker Gary Madine was the Whites' first signing of the 2015 summer transfer window.

A product of Carlisle United’s youth academy, the 24-year-old striker started his professional career with the Cumbrians, spending brief stints with Rochdale, Coventry City and Chesterfield during his time at Brunton Park.

Linking up with Sheffield Wednesday in January 2011, Madine made over 100 appearances for the Owls as he helped them win promotion to the Championship in 2012, alongside temporary spells back at Carlisle, Coventry and latterly Blackpool.

Following the expiration of his contract at Hillsborough this summer however, Wanderers moved to secure the frontman’s services.

Having enjoyed a prolific pre-season, Madine made his Whites debut against Derby County on the opening day of the season and was unlucky not to net a maiden strike having twice been denied by the crossbar.

However, the forward did manage to net his first goal for the club the following month as he headed home a last-minute equaliser to earn Bolton a draw against then-Sky Bet Championship league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

Later netting the winner against Blackburn Rovers in December 2015, Madine finished his first campaign with the club with six goals from 36 appearances.

Starting well under Phil Parkinson the following season, he fired three goals in the opening month of the campaign to help Wanderers climb to the top of the Sky Bet League One table.
