Memorial statue set to be unveiled outside the Reebok Stadium a year today
Bolton Wanderers can reveal that the Nat Lofthouse statue will be installed outside the Reebok on 27 August 2013 – what would have been the Lion of Vienna’s 88th birthday.
The date was decided on following consultation with Nat’s family.
Other dates considered included his debut for Wanderers, first goal, the 1958 FA Cup final victory, his first international cap, the Lion of Vienna game and the date of his passing.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Vivien Lofthouse said: “We had quite a few discussions because dad had so many significant dates and moments in his career both with Wanderers and for England. But overall, his birthday was our preferred date.”
