Early goals from Chris Eagles and David Ngog help Bolton record their first pre-season win at the Globe Arena
Two goals inside the opening 12 minutes set Bolton Wanderers on their way to a first win of pre-season at the Globe Arena.
Chris Eagles opened the scoring with his second strike of pre-season, while David Ngog marked his first appearance in the Bolton number nine shirt with a well-taken first-time effort.
Morecambe played their part in an entertaining game, twice hitting the woodwork before the interval.
But in the second half it was all Bolton, as Knight too struck a post, while Eagles ran the show with an accomplished midfield showing.
There could have been more goals for Owen Coyle's charges, but the result, standard of performance and 90 minute outings for six players were the main plus points to take from the evening.
It was all change in the starting line-up from the side that began the game at Crewe four days earlier as only Adam Bogdan, Keith Andrews, Marcos Alonso and Zat Knight kept their places.
One of the players to return was Chris Eagles - and he wasted no time in making an impact as he put Wanderers ahead with a little over three minutes played.
After a timely interception from Alonso, the fit again David Ngog raced clear before feeding Eagles, who twisted inside and prodded the ball into the bottom corner with a classy finish.
Alonso started the game in fantastic fashion and not soon after the opening strike, the Spanish full-back showed great anticipation to race across and cut out Morecambe winger Robbie Threlfall's teasing cross through the six-yard box.
But it was going forward where the former Real Madrid man was really showing his quality. Again he was instrumental in Wanderers' second goal of the game, scored by Ngog on 12 minutes.
Alonso's perfectly-weighted pass released Wylde down the left, who cut the ball back for the Bolton number nine. Ngog opened up his body and belted the ball past Roche from eight yards out with another piece of clinical finishing.
Despite Bolton's industrious start, it wasn't all one-way traffic as inside the opening 25 minutes, the Shrimpers had three clear-cut chances to reduce arrears.
Bogdan's outstretched leg denied Jordan Burrow after the forward had run clear, Chris McGready headed against the far post from a corner, while substitute Kevin Ellison also hit the woodwork after the ball had squirmed from the grasp of Bogdan on the slick Globe Arena surface.
Having been stung by Bolton's blistering start, Morecambe had slowly come back into the contest and there were further chances for the hosts before the break, most notably a free-kick from Ellison which brought a tidy low save from Bogdan.
Wanderers too could have extended their lead ahead of the referee's half-time whistle, with Ngog having two decent openings; Roche blocking the first before the Frenchman scuffed wide in the 42nd minute.
Those chances were Ngog's last of the evening as he was withdrawn at the break, along with Tim Ream, Josh Vela and Bogdan. Kevin Davies, Mark Davies, Matt Mills and Andy Lonergan were the replacements.
Similar to the first half, Bolton started brightly after the break with Darren Pratley and Wylde forcing Roche into good instinctive saves.
With half an hour to go, pacy youngster Michael O'Halloran was given another chance to showcase his talents as he partnered Kevin Davies in a 4-4-2 formation.
Wanderers continued to look most likely as the half progressed, knocking the ball around with elegance as the rain began to pour down.
Eagles was inches away from notching his second of the evening with a deflected drive from the edge of the area and, from the resulting corner, Knight poked an effort against the upright inside the six-yard box.
Indeed, Eagles was showing no signs of the knock that had kept him of the game at Crewe, as he continued to be at the centre of all things good for Wanderers. A dipping free-kick was well saved by Roche and a jinking dribble was cleared off the line in the last ten minutes.
Morecambe's only effort of note in the second half was a miscued shot from substitute Stewart Drummond which ended up out of the ground.
All in all, it was a satisfactory evening for all involved with Wanderers, as they moved up another gear in their pre-season preparations.
But as for the game itself, it was essentially won inside the first quarter of an hour.
