Defender delighted with the weekend's home shut-out against Charlton
Tyrone Mears was delighted with Saturday’s victory over Charlton and equally pleased to record a clean sheet.
The visitors looked a threat, particularly on the break, but Dougie Freedman’s side were able to keep them at bay.
Mears, who was forced into making a last-ditch challenge on Addicks striker Danny Haynes in the first half, saluted Wanderers’ performance and paid tribute to way they defended as a team.
He said: “Getting a clean sheet was massive, we’ve been wanting that for a while now and since the new manager has come in it’s something we’ve really been working hard for.
“As a defender clean sheets are what we’re always looking to achieve so to get it was pleasing. But I think the whole 11 did a great job, as did the lads who came off the bench.
“When teams come to the Reebok it’s a big game for them; they’ll sit back and try to frustrate us. Charlton did that today and looked to hit us on the break.
“When we had men pushed forward they were dangerous and there were a few incidents where they got in but there was always a defender to stop them and Adam played his part too.”
The defender also praised goalscorer David Ngog, adding: “It was great for David to get his goals and it shows that we’ve got good strength in our squad.
“Obviously you want to play every game but with there being so many quality players at the club you know that you have to be working hard every day to be in the team.
“If a player’s not starting they can still have a big impact on the game coming off the bench. We’re going to need everybody over the next few weeks because we’ve got a lot of games coming up."
