Afobe On Target For England Under-21s

On-loan striker marks debut with second-half penalty against Northern Ireland

Benik Afobe got his England Under-21s career off to the perfect start on Tuesday evening by scoring in the 2-0 win over Northern Ireland.

The on-loan striker was introduced at half-time and he marked his debut with a 76th minute penalty after being brought down inside the area.

Sunderland forward Connor Wickham had earlier given Stuart Pearce’s side the lead with a first-half header.

Afobe’s impressive 45-minute cameo stands him in good stead for making the squad for next summer’s European Championship which takes place in Israel in June.
