Under-18s: Wanderers 0-2 Reading

The scholars' ten-game unbeaten run comes to an end

Bolton Wanderers Under-18s’ ten-match unbeaten start to the season came to an end at the weekend as they were defeated 2-0 at home by Reading.

The Whites succumbed by conceding a goal in each half, the second of which was a stunning strike late on.

The win for Reading ensured that they knocked Wanderers off top spot in the table. The Royals now sit level on 26 points from 11 games, but have a superior goal difference of two.

Bolton are 11 points ahead of the third placed club, Everton.

Head coach David Lee said:  “We were beaten by the better team on the day and although we did play well, it was just one of those days.

“I can't ask any more of the players as this was our first defeat of the season and it took two good goals from our opponents for them to seal the win.

“We were 1-0 down at half-time, but started the second half really well and had put a lot of pressure on Reading for 25 minutes. Then we got caught with a stunning goal against us.

“Overall we are confident we will bounce back next week against Blackburn after we've had a good week of training.”
