Woodland Stars For England Under-18s

Academy midfielder plays 30 minutes against the Italians

Academy youngster Luke Woodland was used as a 61st minute substitute in England Under-18s’ 2-0 victory over Italy last night at The One Call Stadium.

Woodland was making his first appearance for the Under-18s side after previously representing his country at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, and impressed in front of a crowd of over 5,000 at Mansfield.

The midfielder received his call-up on the back of his performances for the table-topping Wanderers’ Under-18s, coached by David Lee and Tony Kelly, who remain undefeated this season.

A third minute strike from Everton striker Chris Long gave the Young Lions the early lead, and Manchester City’s Devante Cole’s goal just after the hour mark ensured England would open their new season with victory against a resolute Italian side.
