Ngog Raring To Go

7 September 2012

David Ngog wants to put an injury-hampered start to the season behind him

David Ngog is hoping that he will be able to play some part in Bolton’s next Championship fixture against Watford after stepping up his fitness in the past couple of weeks.

The French striker missed the majority of pre-season and the early part of the 2012/13 campaign with a back injury.

But having now completed 45 minutes against Norwich and the full game at West Ham for the Development Squad, Ngog believes he is getting closer to 100 percent with each passing day.

Speaking to Wanderers Player, Ngog said: “It’s been really enjoyable to go back on the pitch. I’m really looking forward to the new season now.

“I’ve had a back injury which I got when I returned for pre-season. It has kept me out for quite a few weeks but I’ve worked really well with the physio, staff and chiropractor, and now I’m feeling fit.

“With this kind of injury I have had to be careful. Whatever exercise you do, you use your back, whether it be running or any sessions in the gym.”

Having sat out of the tour of Scotland in July, Ngog played 45 minutes in the friendly against Morecambe at the start of August, marking the occasions with a well-taken goal in the 2-0 win at the Globe Arena.

However, in the next pre-season fixture at Portsmouth, he was forced from the field early in the first half with a reoccurrence of his injury.

“I tried to play because sometimes when you are injured you can get through it,” he said. “But the pain was too sharp and I took the decision to stop playing and to try and get myself 100 percent fit.

“For footballers, injuries are one of the worst things that can happen. It’s difficult because you want to be out there on the pitch and playing with the team."

He added: “Now I am back in full training with the first team. I’m getting closer to 100 percent and getting my touch and sharpness back. If I get a chance to help the team, I will look to take it.”
