Manager pleased with performance, but frustrated with end result against Charlton
Dougie Freedman was left to rue missed opportunities as Bolton were held to a 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic at the Reebok Stadium.
After falling a goal behind Bolton rallied against a stubborn Charlton side and drew level through Kevin McNaughton’s curling effort in first half stoppage time.
And despite dominating much of the play after the restart, a winning goal ultimately eluded the Trotters.
“We’re disappointed with the result, but not so much the performance,” the manager said. “The players have put a lot of hard work in on the training ground and I think that showed in our good approach play.
“We had a golden spell towards the end of the first half. We dominated and created chances, but at the end of the day it boils down to taking them.
“We are trying to change the culture of the football club. We’re looking to play good football whilst developing younger players.
“The story of the game is probably summed up by Kevin McNaughton scoring our goal.
“Our approach play was excellent. We just need to make sure that when we’re getting the chances we’re taking them.
“Credit to Charlton, they came here to try and get a draw and that’s what they have got.
“They sat very deep, though I still thought that we had done enough to win the game.”
