Craig Davies admitted that he is looking forward to facing his former employers Barnsley but he is determined that his return to Oakwell will be one to remember.
The 27-year-old swapped South Yorkshire for the Reebok during the January transfer window after two years with the Tykes, and revealed that there will certainly no love lost when the two sides clash on Saturday afternoon.
“It’s going to be a tough game at Oakwell – I know all about them,” Davies said. “They never make it easy when you go there, but hopefully we can get a good result.
“It’s going to be nice going back – I’ve still got friends there, I speak to a few of the players who are still there as well as the manager every now and then.
“I don’t want them to get a good result against us, but I hope they do well for the rest of the season.
“I think they’d had seven or eight wins before losing on Saturday against Bristol City, so I’m sure they’ll be eager to put that right.
“Hopefully we can do what we’ve been doing, collect three points and carry on going up the table.”
Victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday evening lifted Wanderers to tenth, but Davies is adamant that the team will not be taking anything for granted during the remainder of the season.
“Hopefully we can keep it going. Even before the last two games we’ve been doing well with draws – Nottingham Forest was a tough game, as was Burnley and Derby, so hopefully we can keep collecting points along the way.
“That is what this league is about – all the teams have got decent players,” he added. “Teams will come to places like the Reebok and want to lift their game.”
Having quickly settled into life in the North West, the striker also paid tribute to his fellow centre forward and namesake Kevin Davies.
The pair were used as substitutes in the win over Darren Ferguson’s side, and the Wales international confessed that working alongside a player of the captain’s calibre is an honour for him.
“With the experience of someone like the skipper, it’s always going to be good bringing someone like that on,” he explained.
