Nine unique maquettes produced as part of fundraising campaign
Sculptor Sean Hedges-Quinn, who is completing the statue of Wanderers legend Nat Lofthouse, has revealed the finished maquette image of the Lion of Vienna.
The pose of Nat leading Bolton out on matchday as captain was chosen by fans and family.
It reflects his final words before he died two years ago today. ‘I've got the ball now, it’s a bit worn, but I’ve got it’, will be incorporated on the plinth of the final statue.
Nine unique maquettes have been produced as part of the fundraising campaign to support the project and installation of the statue at the Reebok stadium.
Club chaplain Phil Mason said: “We are absolutely delighted with the work Sean has done. The image captures Nat perfectly - his strength, both physical and mental, and his great sense of purpose on and off the field.
“We now begin the second phase of our fundraising efforts. The people of Bolton have responded magnificently and now we are looking to gain the support of major companies and organisations.
“In February we will be able to reveal the finalised plans for the siting of the statue at the Reebok and we are very much on track for the unveiling on August 27; the date of Nat’s birthday."
