Vela Out To Impress

"I want to show the manager what I can do and hopefully get myself in contention for the first team squad," says the academy graduate

Midfielder Josh Vela was thrilled to be back playing after making his return for the development squad in Tuesday night’s game against Oldham at the County Ground.

The 19-year-old has been out of action since August with a knee injury, but after featuring in 76 minutes of match action the academy graduate reiterated his desire to work his way back into contention for the first team.

Speaking after the game, Vela said: "It was really good to be back after spending the last four months out. I have worked really hard putting in the hours in the gym. It has been tough, but now I just want to push on from here.

"I felt good in the first half but I started to tire in the second. It was just great to be out on the pitch again with the lads and I enjoyed playing alongside Stuart Holden.

“I made some good passes and I was able to get myself around and involved.

"The manager spoke to me after the game and said he was pleased with what he had seen. Now I just want to work hard and get in the matchday squad. I will be looking to build up my match fitness and continue with the progress I have made.

"It is a big chance for me, I want to show the manager what I can do and hopefully get myself in contention for the first team squad.”
