Club statement

Bolton Wanderers announce Director of Communications Mark Alderton has left the football club.

Mark joined in 2009 and successfully guided the club through many notable events and challenges, including the global media interest surrounding Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest. 

Chairman Phil Gartside said: “Mark is highly respected both inside and outside the club. He has worked with us through tough times with upmost professionalism and dedication. Mark intimately understands the world of the media.

“I would like to thank Mark, for the work he has done on behalf of the football club. He will always be welcome at Bolton Wanderers, and he goes with our best wishes and thanks.”

Manager Dougie Freeman said: “I have enjoyed working with Mark, he has real insight into how the media operates, plus he is a good guy and I wish him well.”

Mark Alderton said: “While there have been some challenging times, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment working at Bolton Wanderers. I now have the opportunity to explore some new avenues and am keen to make the move. I would like to wish everyone at the club all the very best in the future.”
