Players visit two local hospices and the Royal Bolton Hospital earlier this week
Members of the first team squad visited Royal Bolton Hospital and two local hospices’ after training on Tuesday to distribute Easter eggs to patients and spend time with them and their families.
A group of six players, led by captain Kevin Davies, visited the E5 Children’s Ward at Royal Bolton Hospital and met sick children who are currently staying in the hospital recovering from illness and operations.
Joining Kevin were Chris Eagles, Jay Spearing, Marcos Alonso, Joe Riley and Josh Vela and the six first teamers walked around the E5 ward distributing eggs to children who won’t be spending the Easter period at home. Lofty the Lion also joined the players and helped boost spirits on the ward.
Zat Knight, Darren Pratley, Tim Ream and Jay Lynch spent time chatting with Day Therapy patients and the staff at Bolton Hospice before meeting those who are currently staying at the Hospice for respite care.
Meanwhile another group of six players, including Stuart Holden and Andy Lonergan, visited Derian House in Chorley to chat and play with children and young adults who are currently at the Children’s Hospice receiving respite and palliative care.
David Wheater, Craig Davies, Rob Lainton and David Ngog were also present at Derian House and after spending time with the children and their loved ones, they were shown around the impressive facilities by members of the care team.
Speaking after visiting Royal Bolton Hospital Kevin Davies said: “Visits like these are always so important to the local community and you could tell by the massive grins on the kids’ faces that it meant a lot to them. Hopefully us spending some time with them all today has helped to lift their spirits.”
“As a dad myself, I know on a first-hand basis how incredible the staff at Royal Bolton Hospital are and we are all so grateful for the tireless work they do in Bolton on a daily basis.”
Andy Lonergan echoed the captain’s thoughts after visiting Derian House and said: “Everybody here does a fantastic job with the work that they do and meeting all the children has really touched all of the lads.”
“It was nice to spend some time with the kids here; they were all excited to see us and asked lots of questions. It’s the second time I’ve been here and it was nice to see everyone again.”
