First team pair attend local awards night
Andre Moritz and Chung-Yong Lee attended the Voice 4 U Awards at Bolton Town Hall on Monday evening to present certificates of success to children who have worked with the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust Positive Chances programme over the last twelve months.
The Voice 4 U Awards are aimed at looked after children, supported by Bolton’s Children in Care Council and acknowledges and celebrates their achievements over the past year.
Whilst at the Town Hall, Andre and Chung-Yong signed autographs for the children and their families before taking their place on stage in front of 300 people to award six certificates to local children who have been working with BWCT in the last year and have developed as individuals via a range of activities, support and guidance.
Speaking following the event, Andre said: "This is my first community appearance out in the town of Bolton and the children that we met tonight were really inspirational and deserve to be acknowledged for all of their achievements and hard work.
"This evening Chungy and I came here with our hearts open and have learnt more about Bolton Wanderers Community Trust and their Positive Chances project and I think the work that they do with these children all year round to support and encourage them is fantastic and I feel very proud to be a part of it."
Ben Laycock, Head of Community Cohesion for BWCT, added: "Bolton Wanderers Community Trust has a long standing relationship with the looked after children in Bolton. This event is one of the highlights of the year and it is fantastic that we can get role models such as Chung Yong-Lee and Andre Moritz along to add to their memorable night."
BWCT’s Positive Chances programme is a community based sport and education project that is delivered across Bolton and its surrounding boroughs and aims to create a good practice framework and support for looked after children and their families.
The Positive Chances project helps to tackle and combat the issues young people face in everyday life by providing them with positive chances in education and across a wide range of sports as well as being encouraged, supported and challenged to be the best that they can be.
The project, funded through the BIG Lottery Fund, is also directed towards educational engagement and achievement and a Study Support programme aims to increase academic attainment and link in to existing accreditated national schemes such as The Duke of Edinburgh Award to ensure continued learning and a chance to gain qualifications to help towards their future prospects.
