Defender happy to be back in starting XI but disappointed with Leeds outcome
Matt Mills admits that Saturday’s defeat against Leeds United was a bittersweet afternoon.
The central defender started his first league game for Bolton since December after a spell on the sidelines with injury last season, but was unable to prevent Leeds United from leaving the Reebok with all three points.
And whilst admitting he was happy to be back in the starting XI, Mills reiterated the fact that the result was of paramount importance.
“Obviously it’s a very frustrating day. To concede from a set piece is very disappointing,” said Bolton’s number four. “The desire we showed to try and get back into the game was a positive but the game didn’t fall our way today.
“I thought we stone wall penalty when Darren Pratley was fouled but those types of decisions don’t always go your way but we have to keep going.
“Things aren't going our way at the minute but we have to stay together. We have to put things right. There is no point blaming one another, we have to work together to try and turn the results around.
“We have played at this level long enough now to know what we need to do to win football matches and the quicker we can get things together, the better.
“On a personal note, to be back in the side was good. Whenever you’re given the opportunity to play for this club it’s an honour.
“It’s been a while since I was in the team and it has been hard at times. I’ve tried to work on my game a lot whilst I’ve not been in the team and I felt like I gave it everything I had today.
“Fingers crossed I’m given the nod the play against Derby on Tuesday.”
