U21s: Manchester United preview

A look ahead at Monday evening's clash

Wanderers’ Under 21s travel to the Salford City Stadium on Monday evening to face Manchester United as they continue their search for a first victory of the season.

Following on from the team’s opening day defeat at the hands of Sunderland, Jamie Fullarton’s side have secured two creditable draws on home soil against West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.

After an unbeaten pre-season campaign which yielded four victories, the club’s young guns will be hoping to return to winning ways against a United side who have enjoyed a comfortable start with one win and one defeat against West Brom and Liverpool respectively.

With their opponents having notched six goals in their opening two league outings however, the Whites will have to be on their guard to keep the Red Devils’ strike force at bay.

Fullarton looks certain to name a similar side to that which faced Boro at the Reebok Stadium prior to the international break, with Sanmi Odelusi and Chris Lester set to feature alongside Under 21 regulars Josh Vela, Cian Bolger and Andy Kellett.

United are also expected to make minimal changes to the team that recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory over the Baggies in their last league outing, with the likes of Angelo Henriquez, Larnell Cole, Nick Powell and Davide Petrucci likely to keep their places in the starting line-up.

The last time the two sides met was back in October 2012 in a Manchester Senior Cup clash where the Red Devils ran out 2-1 winners courtesy of strikes from Powell and Federico Macheda.

The game itself kicks off at 7pm and entry will cost £3. For those travelling by car, the address for the Salford City Stadium is 1 Stadium Way, Eccles, M30 7LJ.
