Zach Clough thrilled with Moss Rose strike

Academy graduate speaks exclusively to the club following his goal in Friday's friendly at Macclesfield

Having fired home Wanderers’ equaliser in Friday evening’s pre-season friendly against Macclesfield Town, Zach Clough hopes his effort will stand him in good stead for the upcoming campaign.

A key figure for the club’s under-21 and development squad throughout the course of last season, the 19-year-old frontman pulled a youthful Whites’ side level with nine minutes remaining at Moss Rose to ensure that the clash ended all square.

Speaking following the final whistle, the young striker admitted his delight at finding the back of the net against the Silkmen.

“It’s great to get my chance and my goal – at the end of the day, I just want to prove myself to the manager and hopefully games like this can do that.

“All I can do is keep on working hard and hopefully I’ll get a few more opportunities.”

Linking up well with fellow young striker Conor Wilkinson for the strike with the former Millwall academy graduate providing the assist for the goal, Clough paid tribute to his teammate.

“It was a great ball in from Conor," he said. "We definitely work well together and he repaid me for the cross I gave him last week against Bamber Bridge.

“I really enjoy playing alongside him since he’s come to the club and hopefully we can continue in the same way.”
