Local youngsters Wembley bound

Pupils from Bolton School set to represent club at the national stadium in May

Bolton Wanderers’ representatives in the Football League Trust Kids Cup will compete in the national final at Wembley Stadium after triumphing against local rivals Burnley in the regional competition.

Having already emerged as champions over 19 local primary schools to reach the regional stage, Bolton School Junior Boys overcame 11 other northern sides at the Eddie Davies Academy last Thursday to reach the final.

Bolton School Junior Boys will now compete for the overall crown against the southern champions at the national stadium on May 24 prior to the Championship Play-Off final.

For reaching the final, the boys will also get a tour of Wembley as well as tickets for the Play-Off Final itself.

Funded by the Football League Trust, the Kids Cup is a six-a-side tournament held every year for under-11 boys and was won last year by Huddersfield-based Honley Junior School.

Speaking about the boys’ achievement, Bolton Wanderers Premier League 4 Sport coordinator Katie Bent said, “It is a fantastic opportunity for the boys - it is once-in-a-lifetime experience for them.

“A lot of the boys won’t get another chance to play at Wembley so it is a great chance for them to do so through this competition.

“It is brilliant that they won and we’ve got high hopes for them to go on and win the competition overall.”
