Loan Watch: Mixed fortunes for Wanderers loanees

Whites’ half-a-dozen loanees all start during latest round of Football League fixtures

All six of Wanderers’ players currently plying their trade away from Macron Stadium, were in action over the course of the weekend, with some enjoying better luck on the pitch than others.

In the Championship Keith Andrews marked his first start in August with an assist as Watford beat Millwall 3-1 at home to move to the top of the league table.

Having fallen behind to Martyn Woolford’s early opener, the Republic of Ireland international set up the Hornets’ equaliser, picking out Matej Vydra inside the area as the forward bundled home from close-range.

Further strikes from Daniel Tozser and Gianni Munari either side of half-time later sealed the win for Watford.

Elsewhere in England’s second tier, Alex Baptiste completed 90 minutes as Blackburn Rovers triumphed 3-1 over Reading to secure their third successive win.

In League Two, Georg Iliev and Hayden White endured a miserable afternoon as Carlisle United fell to a 3-0 defeat away at Portsmouth.

Iliev was replaced at half-time with the Cumbrians 2-0 down at the time, before White was sent-off late on to compile further misery on Keith Curle’s side ahead of their long trip back up north.

Meanwhile, Joe Riley and Andy Kellett both completed 90 minutes for Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle respectively, as the U’s lost 2-1 at home to Wycombe Wanderers while the Pilgrims secured a 1-1 draw with Burton Albion.
