Loan watch: Mixed fortunes for Wanderers loanees

With a full Football League fixture list after last week’s international break, one on-loan Wanderer made a debut for his new side as five of the Whites’ loanees were in action in total.

Alex Baptiste completed 90 minutes as ten-man Blackburn Rovers came from behind to secure a late victory over Leeds United to move into the play-off places.

Souleymane Doukara had fired the visitors into a first-half lead before a defensive error allowed Jordan Rhodes to equalise with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Tom Cairney was later sent off for a second bookable offence in the final ten minutes, but that did not prevent Rovers from clinching the win as Rhodes stepped up to score from the penalty spot moments later.

Also in the Championship, Keith Andrews started against Derby County as Watford fell to a late defeat against the league leaders.

The Republic of Ireland international was withdrawn shortly after the hour-mark, with Gianni Munari coming on in his place and levelling the scores, cancelling out Jordan Ibe’s opener, moments later.

However, Craig Bryson secured the win for Steve McClaren’s side late on, beating goalkeeper Jonathan Bond from long-range.

In League One Jermaine Beckford was an unused substitute for Preston North End as they took on league leaders Bristol City, having signed for the Lilywhites last week.

Aston Villa loanee Callum Robinson scored the game’s only goal on the half-hour mark, converting from close-range to secure three points for Simon Grayson’s side.

Meanwhile in League Two, Hayden White made his Bury debut as play-off challengers Newport County secured a 3-1 victory at Gigg Lane, inflicting the Shakers to their first home defeat of the season in the process.

Elsewhere, Andy Kellett tasted a league defeat for the first time since joining Plymouth Argyle last month as the Pilgrims lost 1-0 away at Mansfield Town, while Joe Riley’s Oxford United fought out a 0-0 draw at home to Wimbledon.
