U18s: Bolton 0-2 Stoke City

Youngsters fall to defeat against their Stoke City counterparts

Wanderers’ Under-18s suffered defeat in their first game of the second phase of the FA U18 Premier League against Stoke City last weekend.

The Whites were once again made to rue individual errors and missed opportunities as both of Stoke’s goals came from swift counter-attacks after Bolton had twice gifted the visitors possession.

At the other end, Jamie Thomas missed a good chance to score for Bolton as he failed to hit the target from eight yards, while Will Abbots, Tyler Garratt and Alex Honeyball were all unable to convert good heading opportunities in the second half.

Speaking following the final whistle, coach David Lee urged his side to be more prolific in future.

“The players were caught out with two goals after we lost possession during attacking phases of play.

“Two individual mistakes were punished with us conceding.

“The lesson for the players was they need to take advantage of the chances created, being more clinical to reward the team for its hard work.

“Pleasing, though, was the introduction of Ryan White – an under-16 who is with us as a scholar next season.”

Bolton: Dorrington, Spooner , Garratt (White), Honeyball, Phillips, Cvetko, Griffiths, Perry, Likoy-Elumba, Thomas, Abbotts.
