Manager frustrated with the manner of Bolton's defeat at Huddersfield
Neil Lennon says his side’s second half performance at Huddersfield was simply not good enough.
After being level at 1-1 at the interval at the John Smith’s Stadium, Wanderers then shipped three in what was a largely one-sided second half.
And after the match the manager was left disappointed with the manner in which his side had conceded goals.
“To say we’re disappointed is an understatement,” Lennon said. “We conceded some very soft goals. They were awful ones to give away from our point of view.
“We get done from a short corner just before half time and that was a big blow because I thought we had done okay in the first half.
“In the second half we were way too passive. We’ve known for a while that we’re a little bit lightweight and that we lack physicality, and that really showed today.
“We can’t keep relying on our defence to keep teams out, we have to be better in the final third. We’re lacking quality for the final pass and that is a real concern right now.
“It was a blow to lose Emile early on. He’s felt his hamstring and that could be him out for two or three weeks. It’s a shame because he’s been doing really well in training.
“Once Huddersfield got their second goal the psychology of the game changed and we didn’t handle that well at all. We didn’t offer any sort of pressure.
“I didn’t see the incident that led to Derik’s red card. I’ll have to look at it again, but that will be a learning curve for him. He’s defended really well, but there is a lack of experience to what English football is like at this level.”
