U23s: Barnsley 2-1 Bolton

Youngsters slip to defeat against their counterparts from Oakwell

Wanderers' Under-23s suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of their Barnsley counterparts on Friday afternoon.

Having started the game on the back-foot, it ultimately proved to be their downfall as they found themselves two goals down inside the first 15 minutes.

Despite the set-back however, the Whites proceeded to dominate the clash thereafter. Firstly, George Newell had a header saved on the line from an Alex Honeyball cross while Alex Samizadeh also saw two shots saved.

Not to be denied meanwhile, the Iranian striker soon had his name on the scoresheet.

Jeff King and Hyuga Tanner kept the ball well inside the Tykes' box before teeing up Samizadeh who scored from six yards who halved the deficit.

Again dominating in the second period, Newell again came close to scoring as his close range header was tipped over the bar by the Barnsley keeper.

The Yorkshire outfit were on the backfoot and the Whites looked likely to find a leveller as the game wore on, but sadly left the clash empty handed at the final whistle.
