Bolton Wanderers’ 2016/17 Sky Bet EFL League One fixtures revealed

Phil Parkinson’s side to face Sheffield United at Macron Stadium on opening day

Bolton Wanderers will open their 2016/17 Sky Bet League One campaign at home to Sheffield United.

The opening fixture will take place at Macron Stadium on Saturday 6 August.

Phil Parkinson’s side will travel to Kingsmeadow the following Saturday as they take on AFC Wimbledon for the first time in club’s history in their maiden away game of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Whites’ first midweek clash of the season will be against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday 16 August.

Bolton will welcome local-rivals Fleetwood Town to BL6 for the first time on Saturday 20 August, before finishing the opening month of the campaign at The Valley with an away trip to Charlton Athletic on Saturday 27 August.

The traditional Boxing Day fixture will see the Trotters face Shrewsbury Town at home, before also hosting Scunthorpe United in the final game of the 2016 calendar year on New Year’s Eve. 

Wanderers’ opening fixture of 2017 is an away game against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena on Monday 2 January.

Elsewhere, Easter Weekend brings two local derbies as the Whites travel to Oldham Athletic on Saturday 15 April, before hosting local-rivals Bury on Easter Monday two days later. 

Other notable fixtures include a home meeting with Oldham Athletic on Saturday 15 October, as well as away trips to Bury on Saturday 22 October and Fleetwood Town on Saturday 11 March.

Bolton will also travel to Rochdale on Tuesday 27 September before playing the return fixture at Macron Stadium on Tuesday 14 February.

The Trotters will wrap up the season with a home clash against Peterborough United on Sunday 30 April.
