U23s: Bolton 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday

George Newell on scoresheet as young Whites slip to defeat

An experienced Wanderers Under-23 team slipped to a narrow defeat at the hands of their Sheffield Wednesday counterparts on Tuesday evening.

Bolton did in fact open the scoring in the clash through George Newell with the striker firing home from close range after good work and a pinpoint cross by Chris Taylor.

Proceeding to retain the ball well for long periods, David Lee’s side however struggled to make their dominance count in terms of extending their advantage.

Leading 1-0 at the half time, the second half was less fruitful for the Trotters with a number of errors allowing the Owls to equalise through Fraser Preston.

Buoyed by their leveller, the visitors then took the lead through George Hirst to ensure that the three points made their way back to Hillsborough at the final whistle.
