BWFC and BWCT shortlisted for North West Football Awards

Confirmation of nominations for the club and its charity arm at local awards event

Bolton Wanderers Football Club and Bolton Wanderers Community Trust have both been shortlisted for awards at the prestigious North West Football Awards.

The Club faces competition from Liverpool Football Club and Tranmere Rovers in the Best Club Marketing Campaign/Sponsorship or Engagement Campaign category for its BWFC Club Together campaign.

While the Community Trust has been nominated alongside its Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, Everton, Burnley and Wigan Athletic counterparts in the Community Initiative of the Year category for its Wanderers Fitter Fans project.

Wanderers’ Commercial Manager John Ashley said: “The BWFC Club Together, sponsored by Inchcape Volkswagen, campaign has been a huge success for the Club. Forming partnerships with community groups and junior football clubs enables us to engage with our fans of the future whilst offering them a cashback incentive to provide new resources for their respective groups.”

Head of Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, Phil Mason, who has also been shortlisted for the Unsung Hero Award, added: “We are up against some tough competition for this award but I’m pleased on behalf of the entire team that the Wanderers Fitter Fans project has been recognised for the hard but rewarding work it entailed.

“The Wanderers Fitter Fans initiative was established in order to increase participation in physical activity and reduce social isolation for those over the age of 55 across Bolton.

“Since its inception in September 2015, the programme has engaged over 60 participants in total. Exit routes in the form of weekly walking, football and gym circuit sessions have been established in order to ensure continued participation.

“Of the 45 engaged through the core programme, 20 individuals regularly attend at least one of the weekly sessions. The programme has also facilitated a walking football tournament on the pitch at Macron Stadium and participation in another tournament held in Blackpool earlier this year.”

The North West Football Awards will take place on Monday 14 November at Emirates Old Trafford, Lancashire County Cricket Club.
