Bolton Wanderers Community Trust were recently recognised by the Bolton Dementia Action Alliance as a business working towards becoming Dementia-friendly.
As part of the Horwich Dementia Friendly Communities Pilot, the Trust needed to demonstrate ways in which it supported those with dementia in the town - this included members of staff being trained as Dementia Buddies and running inclusive activities for those with Dementia.
The pilot study itself was a success, with over 100 local businesses committing to make Horwich dementia friendly.
A dementia friendly community is a geographical area where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported and confident that they can contribute to community life.
Bolton Dementia Action Alliance are now looking at rolling the scheme out across all areas of Bolton.
The Community Trust currently deliver a Sporting Memories session in partnership with Sporting Memories Network. This session runs on the first Friday of every month from 11am – 12:30pm at the Macron Stadium. For more information please contact Richard Slater (rslater@bwct.org.uk) or ring 01204 673 790.
Community Trust staff who work on this session have been provided with training that gives them an understanding on Dementia, alongside knowledge on how to interact with people with dementia ensuring they are treated with respect and consideration around the football club.
