Preview: Five talking points ahead of Bristol City v Bolton Wanderers

As Wanderers prepare to travel to Bristol City on Tuesday, bwfc.co.uk highlights five talking points ahead of the Whites' Sky Bet Championship clash with the Robins.

1. Sammy's back!

Yet to kick a ball yet this season because of injury, Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson confirmed Sammy Ameobi will be in the Whites squad travelling to Bristol City on Tuesday night.

Following a successful half-season loan stint with the club last year, the popular winger joined the club permanently last summer but has been sidelined with a knee injury since Bolton's final pre-season outing at home to Stoke City.

Although not yet ready to start after seven weeks out of action, the former Newcastle United man is set to take his place amongst the Trotters' substitutes at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

And with Wanderers looking to kickstart their campaign, Ameobi's return gives his side a welcome boost as he prepares to make his second debut for the club.

2. Former Robins

Mark Little and Aaron Wilbraham will both line up against their former club on Tuesday night after making the move to Macron Stadium from Bristol City during the summer.

Having both helped the Robins win both Sky Bet League One and the Football League Trophy in 2014/15, the duo will be afforded warm receptions if they take to the field at Ashton Gate.

Both spent three seasons at the club with Little making 102 appearances and scoring two goals and Wilbraham registering 126 and 34 goals.

Now with six and nine Whites appearances to their names respectively, the duo will be looking forward renewing acquaintances as the aim to get one over on their former employers.

3. Losing run

With the October international break on the horizon, Bolton will be keen to put recent form behind them when they travel to Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

Still searching for a first league win of the season, the Trotters have lost their last six outings in all competitions including Saturday's heavy defeat to Brentford at Macron Stadium.

Eager to bounce back as they look to climb off the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table, Wanderers will be well aware how important a maiden victory could be before the next international break.

4. Goalscoring drought

The Whites claimed an unwanted record on Saturday as defeat to Brentford saw them go a club record six games without scoring.

Their last goal in all competitions came back in August as Jem Karacan's looping header clinched a cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday, while Gary Madine scored the Trotters' last league goal courtesy of his consolation effort against Derby County.

Determined to end their poor run in front of goal sooner rather than later, Bolton will be hoping they have their shooting boots with them when they line up against Bristol City on Tuesday night.

5. Team news

Jem Karacan will miss Tuesday night's game through suspension, while Reece Burke, Filipe Morais and Antonee Robinson will all be assessed after picking up knocks against Brentford at the weekend.

Ben Alnwick will also be assessed as he continues to be troubled by a neck injury, while Jack Earing and Jack King will both travel with the first team down to Bristol.

Elsewhere, Phil Parkinson is hopeful that Will Buckley, Stephen Darby, Derik Osede and Josh Vela will all be fit to return after the October international break.
