Preview: Five talking points ahead of Cardiff City v Bolton Wanderers

After Saturday’s draw with Sky Bet Championship promotion contenders Fulham, Wanderers are back in action on Tuesday night as they make the trip to South Wales to face Cardiff City.

And with the Whites looking to extend their three-match unbeaten run, bwfc.co.uk highlights five talking points ahead of our clash with the Bluebirds.

1. Former Cardiff players

Phil Parkinson’s squad features several players who used to call the Cardiff City Stadium home.

Craig Noone and Andrew Taylor both made over 100 appearances for the Bluebirds during long spells at the club, while at the other end of the scale, goalkeeper Mark Howard spent a year with Cardiff without making a league appearance.

Add into the mix Sammy Ameobi’s loan spell and Adam Le Fondre’s three-year stint and you can almost put together half a team of former Cardiff players who will be itching to impress against their former club.

2. Food for thought

Speaking of impressing, Le Fondre did exactly that on Saturday when he came off the bench to net the stunning equaliser which earned Wanderers a point against Fulham.

The man who Le Fondre replaced, Zach Clough, was also in good form, making his first start since returning to the club.

Despite not getting himself on the scoresheet, Clough was a handful for the Fulham backline and will feel he has made a case to keep his starting spot.

Tyler Walker also impressed on debut against Bristol City which is giving manager Phil Parkinson a nice dilemma with who to start in the striking position.

3. Gary Madine

Until January 31, that sole striker spot was the property of Gary Madine. The former Whites frontman has started both matches for the Bluebirds since his deadline day move to South Wales and will be looking to open his account for his new club against his old one.

After training with him for the majority of the season, the Wanderers backline should know Madine’s game inside out but will have their hands full stopping the big man adding to his ten goals this campaign.

4. Game in hand

This match was rescheduled from January 27 due to Cardiff being in FA Cup fourth round action that weekend, meaning Wanderers have had a game in hand on all their relegation rivals since then.

The rearranged match falls in a week where the Whites can put five points between themselves and the relegation places with a win and leapfrog Reading by climbing up to 18th.

And with a trip to 15th placed QPR coming up at the weekend, a victory would keep Wanderers looking up the table rather than back over their shoulders.

5. Pay on the day

Tickets for Wanderers' trip to Cardiff City on Tuesday will be available to purchase on the night at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Kicking off at 7.45pm, tickets will be available on a cash only basis from the away ticket office, while there will be a £2 price increase for all age bands on the day.

Any supporters who have organised for their tickets to be sent to Cardiff City or have their tickets duplicated will also be available to be collected from the away ticket office.

The club has received an allocation of 1,341 tickets for the Whites’ trip to the Cardiff City Stadium, while advance tickets remain on sale in person at Bolton Central or via the phone lines until 10am on the day of the game, subject to availability.
