TOP TEN WINS: Wanderers 2-0 Cardiff City

After Wanderers secured their place in the Sky Bet Championship for another season, bwfc.co.uk are counting down the Whites' ten best victories from the 2017/18 campaign.

Next up in eighth place, Bolton's late 2-0 victory over promotion-chasing Cardiff City in December 2017.

Christmas came early at Macron Stadium as late goals from Gary Madine and Josh Vela saw Wanderers return to winning ways against the Bluebirds.

Having lost their last two outings away at Nottingham Forest and at home to Burton Albion, the Whites faced the prospect of being bottom at Christmas had they lost with only goal difference keeping them above Birmingham City prior to kick off.

However, Bolton need not have worried as Gary Madine fired them ahead from the penalty spot before squaring the ball to Josh Vela to seal the points in the dying embers of the game, giving the Trotters the perfect jump-start into what would be a very productive festive period.

HOW BWFC.CO.UK SAW IT...

"Wanderers picked up all three points with a hard-fought victory over Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

In a game of few chances, the deadlock was broken with 15 minutes remaining as Gary Madine fired home from the penalty spot following a handball by Sol Bamba in the area.

And the Whites' advantage was doubled with two minutes to go as Madine turned assist maker for Josh Vela to tap home from six yards out and make sure of the victory for Phil Parkinson's men."

HOW THE ASSISTANT MANAGER SAW IT...

"It was an enjoyable game and one which was very competitive between two good teams, battling it out head-to-head.

Ultimately, big moments for ourselves won us the game and it was a great penalty at a really pressurised time which swung it in our favour.

It takes real bottle to step up and put the ball in the net, but the whole commitment shown by the team was top class against a very dangerous Cardiff team.

We’re delighted with the result though and also the clean sheet."
