Preview: Bolton Wanderers v Millwall

Bolton Wanderers take on Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday 9 March. With that said, bwfc.co.uk have produced five talking points ahead of this weekend's clash.

1. Squad Update

Somewhat depleted by suspensions this weekend, Phil Parkinson will be without at least three members of his squad for Saturday’s clash with Millwall.

Jason Lowe is serving the second match of his two match ban after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season at Leeds United almost a couple of weeks ago.

Craig Noone and David Wheater will serve one-match suspensions after being sent off in last weekend’s defeat to Swansea City.

At his pre-match press conference, speaking to bwfc.co.uk Phil Parkinson also gave the following update regarding the condition of member of his squad: ‘We’ve got a few back on the training pitch, and we’ve got three games in seven days coming up.’

‘We need to make sure the players we pick tomorrow are ready to go full throttle because it won’t be a game for the faint-hearted.’

‘It won’t be a game where we can afford to carry anyone who isn’t fully committed or fully capable of playing at 100%.’

2. A game to remember

Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Millwall

In November 2013, Wanderers welcomed Millwall to the University of Bolton Stadium for a Championship encounter. Dougie Freedman’s side had opened up the 2013/14 campaign with a winless run of ten matches, but a victory against The Lions ensured a third victory in five matches.

Rob Hall opened the scoring after just five minutes but just before the half hour mark, the visitors equalised through Jermaine Easter. Wanderers restored the advantage on the stroke of half time however, with Jermaine Beckford firing past David Forde.

In quite a closely fought encounter, Wanderers wrapped up the three points with a minute remaining on the clock through Andre Moritz’s well-taken strike.

3. Back on Home soil

Following back-to-back away fixtures at Leeds United and Swansea City, Wanderers return to the University of Bolton Stadium in the latest Sky Bet Championship fixture against Millwall this weekend.

Phil Parkinson’s men will be looking to put behind them a heavy defeat to Norwich City in the last home outing and the manager has stressed the importance of the clash with Neil Harris’ side, with the aim of bringing them right back into the relegation battle.

With the last home victory a 2-1 success against Rotherham United on Boxing Day, Wanderers will be looking not only to get back to winning ways on their own patch, but also to use the upcoming home double header to their advantage in what is a very important run of fixtures going into the final section of the season.

After this weekend’s clash, The Whites will then prepare for another home clash, with Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening.

4. The reverse fixture

Millwall 1-1 Bolton Wanderers | November 2018

In a lively start to the encounter at The Den, former Millwall defender Mark Beevers opened the scoring with a header that found the net via the inside of the post after latching onto Joe Williams’ superb cross into the penalty area.

Jason Lowe was denied a goal early in the second half, when he saw a volley pushed away superbly by Jordan Archer after he had connected with Pawel Olkowski’s cross into the box.

The home side piled on the pressure in the latter stages of the second half in search of an equaliser and it came through Jake Cooper who diverted Jiri Skalak’s shot past Ben Alnwick after the Czech midfielder had latched onto Jed Wallace’s cross into the box.
