Zach Clough's brace sees Bolton's youngsters pick up a point in Norfolk
Zach Clough continued his early season form on Saturday as he netted both goals in Bolton Wanderers Under-18s’ 2-2 draw at Norwich City.
The young striker, who finished with the Golden Boot in the pre-season Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland, put the Whites ahead on 31 minutes when he converted from an acute angle following good work down the right from Tom Youngs.
Norwich came out after half-time and scored an equaliser when Rian Carroll side-footed past Jan Ole Sievers after a cross from the left had been played into the Wanderers box.
Carroll grabbed his and the Canaries’ second of the game with 19 minutes remaining with a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty box.
But Bolton secured a point in the final minute when Clough was on hand inside the area to calmly turn a long throw into the back of the net.
Speaking after the game, Head Coach David Lee was pleased that his team had continued their unbeaten start to the season, following on from the 5-1 opening weekend win over Arsenal.
He said: “Overall a pleasing performance and a great experience because we had travelled on the Friday, endured a seven-hour journey and the stayed in a hotel overnight.
“This experience is great preparation for the players’ futures, if and when some of them reach first team level.
“We started the game well in the first half and created numerous chances throughout the game. We showed character to come from 2-1 down and deserved to score an equaliser late in the match.”
