Club saddened by the news of 1958 FA Cup-winning inside forward Dennis Stevens

Bolton Wanderers wish to pass on their sincere condolences to the family of Dennis Stevens who has passed away after a long illness aged 79.

Stevens made more than 300 appearances for Wanderers, netting over 100 goals in over 12 years at the club. Three of his most crucial goals came in the rounds of the 1958 FA Cup including one in the famous quarter-final victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He was born in Dudley in the West Midlands in November 1933 and joined Wanderers as a 15-year-old, turning professional in 1950 and progressing through the ranks to first team football in 1953.
 
Club secretary Simon Marland said: “Dennis was one of the Wanderers greats and epitomised everything about the club. He had a pivotal role in our FA Cup triumph and never gave anything less than 100 percent. We are saddened to hear the news and offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Eileen and sons Gary and Julian. We also remember and celebrate his life and great contribution to our club."
