Sordell Features In Team GB Opener

Marvin Sordell plays 45 minutes and hits the crossbar in Team GB's Olympic opener against Senegal

Marvin Sordell was inches away from netting what would have been the winning goal in Team GB's opening game of the Olympics against Senegal.

The Wanderers frontman, who was introduced as a half-time substitute at Old Trafford, smashed an effort against the crossbar from eight yards out in the 88th minute.

The match finished 1-1. Craig Bellamy opened the scoring in the first half before Moussa Konate levelled for Senegal eight minutes from full-time.

In the other group game, Uruguay beat United Arab Emirates 2-1.

Team GB are next in action on Sunday when they play United Arab Emirates at Wembley Stadium.
