Lynch To Step Up

Academy graduate set to feature in Saturday's matchday squad following an injury to Andy Lonergan

Interim boss Jimmy Phillips has revealed that Andy Lonergan is Wanderers’ only new fresh injury concern ahead of the weekend’s game against Bristol City, after the goalkeeper missed training with a knee injury.

Academy graduate Jay Lynch is expected to make the step up to the matchday squad for Saturday’s Reebok fixture.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Wanderers, but has been a regular fixture in both John Henry’s development squad and first team training throughout the last two seasons.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference at Euxton on Thursday morning, Phillips explained: “Unfortunately Andy has picked up a knee injury and we are still waiting to discover the full extent of it. He’s one who won’t be available for this weekend.

“Jay Lynch will be drafted into the squad and it is a good opportunity for him. He has previously been on the bench in the Premier League last season, so we know he will cope fine with that.

“Aside from Andy and our long-term injuries which have been well documented, we’ve got a clean bill of health.

“We are looking forward to welcoming back the five lads who have been away on international duty and working with them.”
