Chris Lester, Rob Holding and Tom Youngs all on target in impressive win
David Lee and Tony Kelly’s Under-18s continued their impressive start to the campaign at the weekend, beating West Ham United 3-1 at Lostock.
Chris Lester, Rob Holding and Tom Youngs were all on target as the scholars took their points tally to seven from the nine that have been available during the opening three matches.
The Whites took a 1-0 lead into half-time with the breakthrough goal arriving inside the opening ten minutes through instinctive play from Lester, who was on-hand to turn the ball into the back of the net after Zach Clough’s effort had rebounded off the post.
Bolton stepped their performance up another level in the second half and they scored a second when a corner dropped to Holding inside the box, with the central defender scoring from close-range.
The Hammers halved the deficit midway through the second period, but Bolton responded immediately to restore the goal-goal advantage on 71 minutes.
After Luke Woodland had won possession in midfield, Clough backheeled the ball to Youngs, who smashed a 16-yard effort into the back of the net to secure the win.
Head Coach Lee said: “Again, this was another pleasing performance with all individual players doing very well.
“We made a good start to the game and then produced and even better performance in the second half. It was a controlled performance.”
