Midfielder says the side have what it takes to maintain their recent run of good form until the end of the season
Following the Whites’ 2-1 victory over Bristol City, Chris Eagles admitted that he has every confidence that the team can finish the league season on a high.
The win at Ashton Gate lifted the Whites to sixth in the league standings with just four games to go, and the winger firmly believes that Wanderers deserved all three points on a testing afternoon against the Championship’s bottom side.
“Playing away against a team that is close to being relegated, they gave a good fight but we dug deep and had a few good chances,” Eagles said speaking after the final whistle. “The second half was a bit end to end and it was a great game to play in, but we’re just pleased to get the win.
“When we went one up we felt quite comfortable, but you can’t leave it at just 1-0 – you always need that extra goal for a cushion.
“They got one back which was a good goal, but we felt strong and we just kept going. The way we’ve been playing, we knew that we would dig out chances, and luckily enough we got a penalty and put it away.”
With the finish line in sight, the Whites travel to the King Power Stadium on Tuesday evening before welcoming Middlesbrough to the Reebok on Saturday afternoon, but the 27-year-old has every faith that he and his team-mates can grind out the results they need.
“We’d like to think we can go all the way, but we’re not happy where we are – we still want to push on and that’s what we’ll do,” he explained. “Leicester is a massive game, and they’re going to be watching us as we’ve climbed the table.
“They drew again on Friday night – they’ve not been in great form lately so it’s going to be interesting, but it makes it enjoyable as well for the fans.
“It doesn’t matter if you support Bolton or not, it’s just been an incredible story of where we’ve come from this season.
“Personally, I’m playing with a smile on my face and I’m loving every minute of it. It’s an honour putting a Bolton shirt on every week and especially when we win it is brilliant.”
