Defender hoping a win at Sunderland can provide a springboard for a good run of league form
Zat Knight praised Wanderers’ character and insists the Whites were unlucky not to claim all three points against Millwall at the Reebok on Saturday.
Andy Keogh gave the visitors the lead from the spot in the eight minute, but the Whites hit back just before the break with a penalty of their own courtesy of Keith Andrews to secure a point on home turf.
Knight was pleased with the Trotters’ response after going a goal behind and now hopes Wanderers can carry this belief into Tuesday’s third round FA Cup replay against Sunderland.
“I think today we showed good character and belief and now I hope that we can get on a good run,” Knight said speaking after the game. “I think overall we played well. They didn’t really pressure us in our box, we kept a high line, won our tackles and created one or two chances.
“Overall we had a good fighting spirit. It was a bit frustrating as we conceded a sloppy goal, but I felt that we got back into the game with the goal before the break.
“Keith has taken some fantastic penalties of late and the boys are making some good movements for us to be able to get these penalties and making it frustrating for their defenders.
“I think defensively we looked strong and restricted Millwall throughout. I think their keeper produced some good saves and we were unlucky not to get that second goal in the closing stages.
“But we just have to try and continue to create our chances and we will one day punish a team and hopefully we can now have a good end to the season. Hopefully we can put the performances in and the fans can stay with us.
“We need to take this spirit into the Sunderland game and have a get on a good run. I think if we can put in a good performance at the Stadium of Light then we can go into the Crystal Palace game with some belief and confidence as our main objective is still to get out of this league.”
