Danns' Watford reaction

Midfielder offers his thoughts following Wanderers' recent win over the Hornets

Neil Danns paid tribute to Wanderers’ strike force following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Watford, claiming that the partnership of Lukas Jutkiewicz and Joe Mason was instrumental in helping the Whites run out comfortable winners against the Hornets.

A game which saw the duo paired upfront for the first time since their respective loan moves to the club, the combination of the two reaped dividends as the on-loan Middlesbrough striker opened the scoring before Mason made sure of the result on the stroke of half time.

Having been introduced into the clash early on following the withdrawal of Darren Pratley, Danns explained that the inclusion of the pair was undoubtedly crucial in the outcome of the clash and also in helping the team produce an accomplished performance on the pitch.

“Both of them are quality strikers and when you’ve got two strikers like Lukas and Joe upfront, it’s going to be a hard game for any defence – they both definitely proved that against Watford,” said the midfielder following the final whistle.

“They’re different types of strikers, but they can both put the ball in the back of the net so as long as you’ve got that, you’ll be a match for any team and that showed.

“I felt like we as a midfield worked well too and that’s testament to them – their movement allowed me to get space and enjoy the game.

“From that, it all seemed to click so hopefully once again, we can keep that fluency going as we move forward.”

Having recorded a first league double of the campaign with victory over Giuseppe Sannino’s side, the 31-year-old admitted that the result and display produced by he and his teammates against the Hornets is one which they will be taking confidence from during the remainder of the season.

“You can’t take Watford for granted – they’re capable of beating any team in this division on their day,” he said.

“It was testament to the boys that like Watford play with their free style, we did that too and that’s a big positive for us because if we can do it against them, we can do it against anyone.

“It’s always nice to get a win at home and it was especially nice to put on a performance for the fans.

“The vibe in the changing room after the final whistle was amazing, so hopefully we can take that into our next game against Blackburn.”
