Liam Feeney's goal the difference in second pre-season fixture
IN BRIEF
Bolton Wanderers registered their first pre-season victory thanks to a solitary Liam Feeney goal against Danish top flight outfit FC Vestsjaelland.
The flying winger linked up well with striker Craig Davies throughout the course of the afternoon, and the pair combined to craft the only goal of the contest on a wet and windy afternoon.
In the second half Vestsjaelland missed a penalty, but in truth Wanderers were always in control in a game that saw Joe Riley, Josh Vela and Oscar Threlkeld all complete 90 minutes.
FIRST HALF
Bolton started the brighter, with Josh Vela seeing plenty of the ball in a deep-lying midfield role.
Despite that, the first real chance of the content fell the way of the hosts.
Right full-back Peter Nymann cut in from the touchline before seeing a shot deflect off a Bolton defender and land on the roof of Andrew Lonergan’s net.
Craig Davies posed a constant threat to the Vestsjaelland back line throughout the course of the opening half.
On 25 minutes he latched onto a clipped ball in behind the defence, with Vestsjaelland goalkeeper Thomas Mikkelsen blocking well before then recovering to deny Georg Iliev on the follow up.
Moments later Davies was then a whisker away from sliding into convert a low cross before the deadlock was broken on 33 minutes.
Davies was once central to the move, as he span away from his marker before seeing his cross-cum-shot from the left channel turned in at the back post by Feeney.
Feeney should have had a second before the interval, though his shot when clean through was once again well blocked by the goalkeeper.
HALF TIME
Early into what had been a relatively tame second half, Vestsjaelland were awarded a penalty after Dorian Dervite was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.
But from the resulting spot kick Rasmus Festersen skied the ball way over the bar.
The tempo subsided, with both managers making a flurry of substitutions.
Bolton continued to hold the upper hand and could have added to their lead, though the Vestsjaelland defence stood strong.
There was to be no further goalmouth action, with attention now turning to the final game of Wanderers’ tour of Scandinavia.
