Our winger plays 64 minutes for Korea in World Cup defeat against Algeria in Porto Alegre
Lee Chung-Yong and Korea Republic’s hopes of qualifying from Group H of the FIFA World Cup were severely dented following defeat against Algeria on Sunday evening.
After drawing their opening game of the competition with Russia, a victory would have put Korea firmly in the driving seat for a spot in the last 16.
However, Algeria would run out 4-2 winners in the game in Porto Alegre, with Lee playing a total of 64 minutes.
Algeria were three goals up within the opening 37 minutes, with Islam Slimani, Rafik Halliche and Abdelmoumene Djabou all on the scoresheet.
After the interval Korea pulled one back through Son Heung-Min, only for Yacine Brahimi to restore Algeria’s three-goal lead on the hour.
Korea then pulled the score back to 4-2 when Koo Ja-Cheol converted from close range, however it was to prove too little too late.
Korea now need to win their final group game against Belgium and hope the Russia and Algeria result goes their way to stand any chance of qualifying.
