Youngsters record handsome win over their Anfield counterparts
Wanderers’ under-18 side recorded their eighth victory in ten outings with an impressive 4-2 victory over Liverpool on Saturday.
Heading into the clash on the back of consecutive wins over Wolves and Middlesbrough on their travels, the club’s youngsters welcomed the Reds to Lostock full of confidence but were dealt a bitter blow with 25 minutes on the clock as the visitors took the lead courtesy of Sheyi Ojo’s penalty kick.
Not to be deterred however, the in-form Jamie Thomas drew Wanderers level shortly after with a well taken chip over the keeper following good work from James Ball.
As the second half got underway, the Whites’ determination was evident with a bright start soon resulting in Thomas’ second goal of the game to hand Bolton the lead, with the frontman powering home an angled drive from 15 yards.
Having gotten their noses in front, the youngsters proceeded to extend their advantage with a low driven shot from Nathan Burke before Will Abbotts added to his recent impressive record in front of goal with a fourth from six yards out.
The Anfield outfit did notch through Dharius Waldron late on, but it was merely scant consolation as Wanderers ran out handsome winners.
Speaking following the final whistle, coach David Lee explained his delight at the performance and attitude of his players as he saw them overcome an early deficit to secure an emphatic victory.
“We were worthy winners,” he said. “The players showed the perfect attitude throughout the game and their desire was there for all to see.
“Combining that with some good phases of play, we thoroughly deserved the win and it is testament to the talent that we have within our ranks.”
