Young guns pick up a point against their Rams counterparts
Wanderers’ youngsters picked up a hard earned point in their latest league outing away at Derby County on Saturday morning.
Coming into the clash off the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat against their Wolverhampton Wanderers counterparts last weekend, David Lee’s side enjoyed opportunities to break the deadlock, with Will Abbotts squandering two glorious opportunities for the Whites.
Despite their efforts however, they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at the final whistle.
Speaking following the game, Lee praised his young side for their determined approach to the game – a display he believes will ultimately reap dividends sooner rather than later.
“We worked hard to close down our opponents,” he explained. “We worked to get the ball and then to get at them when required.
“It is a shame that we couldn’t put away the chances we had as I don’t think anybody would have begrudged us all three points, but that is the name of the game.
“Overall, we played with a really good intensity throughout the match and it was also good for us to give two of our Under 16 players a taste of Under 18s football.
“It was a pleasing display though, and will help with the development of the players in the immediate future and more important, on a long term basis.”
