Club’s youngsters fall to narrow defeat in season opener
Bolton Wanderers Under-18s were unfortunate to lose their U18 Professional Development League 2 season opener on Saturday after putting in a dominant display against Crystal Palace.
Falling behind in the first minute, the young Whites responded well but were unable to convert any of the chances they created.
Hitting the woodwork an incredible six times, Bolton also had two shots cleared off the line – leaving head coach David Lee ruing his side’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal after the match.
“How we didn’t win this game is unbelievable,” said Lee after the final whistle. “It was a cruel introduction to Under-18s football for the new intake of scholars.
“One basic mistake cost the team a goal in the first minute, but from there on in we completely dominated the game, creating over ten good chances.
“The lesson for the players is become more ruthless, clinical and composed in the penalty area.”
Bolton XI: Jaaskelainen, Marsh, Lonsdale, Brockback, Honeyball, Griffiths, Allen (Earing 70), Pearson, Likoy-Elumba (Everest 80), McKenna (Palmer 65), White.
