Neil Lennon - All focussed on Cardiff test

Manager says team concentrating on weekend's game whilst also providing an update on Max Clayton's injury

Neil Lennon has called for his team to sign off from a challenging week at the club with three points against Cardiff City this weekend.

Bolton were held to a 1-1 draw at Macron Stadium against Brentford on Monday evening and are back on home soil for the visit of the Bluebirds on Saturday.

And amid much speculation and conjecture off the field, the manager was hopeful his side could turn everyone’s attentions back to matters on the field.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference Lennon said: “Everyone has had a tough week with all the uncertainty, but if we could end the week with three points this afternoon it would no doubt put a lot of smiles on a lot of faces.

“Whatever happens will happen, all we can do from a football-side of things is get on with our job and try not to worry about what is going on off the field.

“A win would be huge for morale, both on and off the pitch. I know the players are capable of doing it and we had a strong second half showing against Brentford on Tuesday.

“I’m not big into stats, but we had 25 attempts on goal against Brentford, so we must be doing something right. Our problem was that only eight of those were on target and that’s where we know we have to improve.

“We need to have a bit more composure in front of goal. If we can sort that out we’re due a win sooner rather than later.

“It will be a real achievement if over this coming period we can register a couple of back-to-back wins and move up a couple of places. The whole mood would change.”

One player who will definitely miss the weekend’s game is frontman Max Clayton, who was forced off through injury on Tuesday night shortly before half time.

Lennon added: “It’s bad news regarding Max. He’s seeing a specialist today (Thursday) after suffering a hamstring injury. That may require surgery and if that’s the case, he’ll likely be out for the remainder of the season.”
