Returning duo Hayden White and Kaiyne Woolery singled out by Development Squad head coach
Iain Brunskill was thrilled with Wanderers’ youngsters after they despatched Manchester United in the Manchester FA Senior Cup semi-finals on Monday night.
Having only just returned to the club from a loan spell with Notts County, Kaiyne Woolery scored the only goal on the night at the County Ground, Leyland, to set up a final clash with Manchester City.
And having seen the side control proceedings for the majority, Brunskill was more than happy to dish out praise to his players for a job well done.
“All the players worked really hard,” said the Development Squad head coach. “We were playing against quality opposition and we made the game difficult for them right from the very start.
“We started very well and we also had good spells of possession and put them under quite a lot of pressure.
“There were also some outstanding individual performances too. Kaiyne scored a great goal and was a constant threat. Hayden was also great, having also just returned to the club. He is a real leader.
“No matter whatever Manchester United team you play against, you are always going to face some quality opposition.
“Overall we are really pleased. I think we were more than a match for them.”
He continued: “We’ll now be playing against quality opposition again in Manchester City in the final. It’ll be another good opportunity and good experience for our players.
“They’ll be up against some of the best young players in the country. It’s just something different for them.
“Hopefully we’ll perform well and give a good account of ourselves.”
