Young Whites suffer late defeat against Newcastle
Wanderers’ Under-18s slipped to a narrow defeat against Newcastle United last weekend in their last FA U18 Premier League before the upcoming Easter break.
Falling behind on the stroke of half-time, the young Whites managed to equalise on the hour-mark despite having to contend with windy conditions.
Alex Perry crossed into the area following good play out-wide, allowing Danny McKenna to rifle home the leveller following a good first touch.
However, Newcastle scored their winner ten minutes from time as Bolton failed to see the game out.
Speaking after the final whistle, coach David Lee was disappointed with the result but took positives from the inclusion of three Under-16s in his matchday squad.
“The conditions were very difficult and the wind spoiled the game for us. Their goal was a scrappy one for us to concede as well.
"However, it was pleasing to have Ryan White start the game, while Jack Earing came on after 70 minutes.
"We also had Cole Lonsdale on the bench and all three under-16 players will benefit from the experience of being involved at a higher level."
