Chris Cvetko scores free-kick as young Whites held to draw by Canaries
Wanderers’ Under-18s held Norwich City to a draw in their second match of the second phase of the FA U18 Premier League last weekend.
The young Whites took the lead through Austrian young international Chris Cvetko as the forward curled home a free-kick after being brought down on the edge of the area.
However, with windy conditions having an impact on proceedings, Norwich levelled early on in the second half following a good team move.
Bolton had chances to re-take the lead but Nathaniel Phillips was unable to hit the target after rising highest to connect with Luke Griffiths’ corner, while Will Abbotts missed a good opportunity when one-on-one late on as the Trotters were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
Speaking after the final whistle, coach David Lee praised his side’s performance against the Canaries.
“Overall it was a well-worked physical performance throughout. We worked very hard to press the opposition, causing them to give up possession and allow us plenty of the ball in the attacking third.
“In the second half we found ourselves under pressure because of the windy conditions and were forced to drop deep as a result.
“We created a couple of goal-scoring chances after they equalised and could have won the game but it wasn’t to be.
“We also introduced three Under-16s to the squad, with Jack Earing playing for twenty minutes. It is great experience for all three to have been involved.”
Bolton: Dorrington, Spooner , Garratt, Phillips, Honeyball, Perry, Palmer (Earing 70), Griffiths, Abbotts, Likoy-Eluba, Cvetko.
