Defender set to return from Plymouth Argyle loan and could feature in remaining games of season
Oscar Threlkeld is set to return to the Bolton Wanderers first team squad for the remaining five games of the season, interim manager Jimmy Phillips has confirmed.
A graduate of the Bolton Wanderers academy, Threlkeld has the spent the entirety of the season on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Plymouth Argyle.
But with his temporary stay at Home Park set to conclude following the weekend’s round of games, Threlkeld could then feature for Wanderers in the final few games of the season.
The 21-year-old’s last outing for Plymouth will be Saturday’s home game against Wimbledon. He has made a total of 28 appearances for the Pilgrims, who currently sit fourth in the Sky Bet League Two table.
“Oscar is due back at the club next week,” Phillips said in his pre-match press conference. “He’s had a good spell at Plymouth and will now obviously be looking to see what will happen with his future at Bolton.
“He has been able to go out and get some regular football at a good level. It’s important nowadays that younger players are able to go and play senior football. The under-21 league isn’t something that prepares the younger players for league football.
“For Oscar to come back with that experience of being out on loan will have been extremely beneficial in his development.”
